As part of the release of The Tropics EP we invited two up and coming artists we think are doing really interesting work at the moment to give their own interpretations of the tracks: Josip Klobučar and Auditory Ossicles.
These are not remixes in the traditional sense: because of the way Teebs & Jackhigh made the tracks no 'stems' or separate parts are available, the remixers just had to work with the whole track.
Josip Klobučar is a Croatian producer who's already put out some serious tunes on Dutch label 4Lux and French label Eklektik. He's got an EP in pipeline, and we've heard it and we say don't sleep.
His sound is sophisticated, with a strong jazz influence but full of melody, and he plays great fluid intricate live sets. But hold on, however, this isn't jazzy or intricate. This is a banger. They day we got this we slammed it on a party and it delivered.
Auditory Ossicles are an actual band with real instruments from Sofia, Bulgaria, who tread the margin line between jazz and electronics. Key to their unique sound is their use of strange Balkan time signatures which give the music a unique swing.
Here they reprocess Splash into a euphoric surging synth anthem with their skittering broken rhythm sound. Large.
